I’m Jason Paquette. My wife, Lindsay, and I live in Berlin, MA with our children who go to school here.
We are looking to buy a single company in Worcester County or MetroWest to operate long-term as our family’s business.
We are looking for a B2B or home services company that is stable and proven, which could benefit from enhanced systems or additional sales focus to unlock growth, generating $400,000-$700,000 in SDE.
We’re pairing personal savings with an SBA 7(a) loan.
Outside minority investors are not required or anticipated for businesses within our target size range.
More about our Criteria…
Geography:
Worcester County or MetroWest
We are looking within commuting distance from Berlin, MA. We moved to Berlin to be closer to family and our kids are anchored in their schools, so we are not considering another relocation at this time.
We are also open to businesses that have already proven that they function well as remote teams, since I have prior experience building & managing globally distributed teams.
Anticipating a meaningful, not minimum, personal equity injection paired with an SBA 7(a) acquisition loan, we are ready to purchase a business of this size independently, at a reasonable multiple of SDE, without a need for outside minority investors.
For larger businesses or higher multiples, we would seek an aligned long-term-oriented investor for additional equity.
Size:
$400,000 - $700,000 per year in
Seller’s Discretionary Earnings
Industry:
Agnostic (w/ qualifiers)
With a narrow focus on Geography, we’re open to most Industries that don’t require an advanced professional or trade license held by the seller that can’t reasonably be obtained or hired for within a few months.
Services, either B2B or Home, are strong fits, but we remain flexible and open to others.
We are not pursuing food/restaurants, retail, e-commerce, or heavy manufacturing.
Type:
Stable and proven, with established customer base.
No turnarounds, start-ups, or businesses in decline.
We are looking for a business that works, where we can learn to fill the role that the seller fills and do the work the seller does in the business. The seller’s role must be transferable: If the seller is personally the lead deliverer of a specialized skill we couldn't learn during the transition period, that wouldn’t be a fit.
The strongest fit is when there is a growth opportunity where I can apply my prior experience through one or both of:
Additional focus on Sales & Marketing.
Enhanced processes & systems. This could mean modernizing longstanding processes, or refining and scaling what is already working, or formalizing and adding structure to ambiguous processes.
Post-Close Seller Involvement:
Seller is looking to fully exit, but will help ensure a smooth & successful transition.
We are looking for businesses where the seller wants to fully exit without retained or rollover equity.
Barring any alternative or creative financing or deal structuring terms, given that we expect to finance the business using an SBA Loan, the SBA SOPs require the seller to fully exit the business or to also personally guarantee the loan if they retain any ownership.
The specific post-close transition & training period will be ironed out with the seller depending on the complexity of the business, the nature of the seller’s role in the business, etc. 3-6 months of training & transition, with as-needed consulting for 12-24* months is a common structure, but simpler operations may transition quicker.
* Historical SBA SOPs have only allowed seller involvement up to 12 months. As of Oct 1, 2026, that limit has been extended to allow up to 24 months, if needed.
Capital Sources
Senior Debt:
SBA 7(a) Loan
We are working with Viso Business Capital, a leading loan broker specializing in SBA 7(a) loans for small business acquisitions.
Viso works with more than 30 of the most active SBA banks and will match the business and the deal terms to the banks whose lending criteria fit.
Viso has provided a Letter of Support, available on request, concluding that my experience, education, and financial position will likely qualify me for a loan from many of the banks in their network. Qualifying a specific transaction also depends on the business itself, so for a specific opportunity Viso can provide a deal-specific Offer Pre-Qualification letter based on the business and proposed terms.
Equity:
Committed Personal Capital
We are committing substantial personal funds to cover a meaningful, not minimum, equity injection and post-close liquidity requirements.
For companies in our target size range, no outside investors are required or anticipated. If we pursue a deal larger than our target size range, we would do so with aligned long-term oriented investors.
Personal financial statements & bank statements to demonstrate proof of funds available upon request after signing a Mutual NDA.
Background
Two decades running locations, leading teams, selling, managing customer & vendor relationships, and building scalable systems.
I’ve run locations…
… and been measured on their numbers: profitability, AR, customer satisfaction scores.
Three times I went to an underperforming branch and turned around financial and customer service performance within weeks, and won multiple performance awards.
People Leadership:
First & second line, different size teams, inheriting existing teams and building new teams from scratch, in-person & remote, different kinds of work: both front & back-office roles.
Define roles & job descriptions, hiring, development, performance management, and terminations.
Sales:
B2B value-based, consultative sale of a premium-priced solution to technical buyers.
I ramped quickly and met or exceeded quota, winning multiple performance awards.
I’ve owned customer relationships.
From pre-sales, to close, to post-close adoption, expansion, and retention.
I’ve owned vendor relationships.
From requirements definition, to evaluation, to selection, implementation, maintenance, renewals, and in some cases, replacements.
I’ve served on vendors’ customer advisory boards, been a speaker in their conferences and on panels, and been asked to provide references and testimonial videos.
I’ve built from scrappy to scalable:
I can work with ambiguous or non-existent processes & build repeatable, scalable workflows and systems.
I don’t need polished SOPs on Day 1 as long as what the seller does is transferrable.
Education:
BA Business Administration, Washington State University
Double-major: Management, Entrepreneurship; minor in Marketing.
